New york LinkNYC
The most advanced Smartscape in the world
By replacing the aging network of public payphones with state-of-the-art “Links,” the city will transform access to information, while also creating new local jobs for the development, servicing and maintenance of the structures.
LinkNYC - the first-of-its-kind communications network that will replace over 7,500 pay phones across the five boroughs with new structures called Links - has now reached 5 million users in just two years!
LinkNYC will define the way that we interact for decades to come. Here are just a few ways that it will benefit NYC specifically:
Bridging the digital divide
LinkNYC will bring the world’s fastest, free municipal WiFi to millions of New Yorkers, small businesses and visitors in all five boroughs.
Revenue for NYC
The LinkNYC network, which is funded through advertising revenues, will be built at no-cost to taxpayers and will generate more than $500 million in revenue for the City and up to 500 full-time jobs over the next 12 years.
City agencies will be able to communicate in real-time with the public—a feature that is particularly valuable in the event of an emergency. Links are provided with backup power to provide services even during a power outage.
Nonprofits, academic institutions, Business Improvement Districts, think tanks, etc. are given a voice to ensure that LinkNYC is supporting the entire City.
